My Rating: 4 Coffee Cups!!

Escaping Me was my first Elizabeth Lee read and I loved it!! It was an easy, light and pretty heart gushing read.

Whitney Vandaveer was a social elite. Between her lawyer father, socialite step mother and entitled jack-ass of a boyfriend Wes she always had a certain role to maintain. She had it engrained into her in a young age that she had to be perfect and she was too scared and timid to challenge that. Well, that's until she catches her boyfriend Wes in the middle of screwing someone else and trying to get her to chant "Wes is the best" yeah, that's not loser-ish at all. It's summer vacation and  the last place in the world she wants to be is around Wes, so she goes and stays with her mom and younger sister Mallory.

When she was younger during her parents divorce her and her sister got a choice: live in the city with their dad or on a farm in the country with her mom. They each made the opposite choice. So, what better place to escape and do some extreme identity searching than to the one place where she knows she will feel unconditional love. Although the three women aren't especially close, due to the years of separation, they still have a bond that strengthens quickly. Her mom and Mallory immediately see internal struggle that Whitney is dealing with- the subconscious need to be perfect, not make her own choices and avoid conflict. She has always been told what it is that she should want and never had the opportunity to do what she wants with who she wants to do it with. Enter Cole Pritchett....

Cole is the family black sheep. He was raised by hardly ever sober, druggie parents. But whereas his older brother was able to escape and become a police officer, Cole is unable to hold down a job and has MAJOR anger issues that tend to result in him beating the everliving crap out of somebody. So, unable to bail him out of trouble any longer, Cole's brother sends him out of town to an old contact of his in the construction business setting him up with a job and a place to live. Away from him. Oh and away from his pregnant fiance who just happens to be Cole's ex-girlfriend. Yup, that happened. Needless to say Cole isn't looking for a relationship of any sort. Especially not from who he sees as the spoiled, rich, brat that he comes across passed out on the side of the road.

Whitney's escape has always been running and little does she know pushing herself to the brink and overheating at the top of her road will lead her to exactly who and what she needs. After both Cole and Whitney get past each others first impressions of one another they both fall- hard. Whitney starts taking what she wants, going pretty much directly against her father's wishes. She starts making decisions for her own life and her own well-being. Cole finds himself striving to be a better person, both for Whitney and himself. He finds a job he loves and he's good at. But, unfortunately they both have their hang-ups. A major factor for both being trust and confidence, causing all kinds of ripples and bumps along the road.

Tidbits on the Author:

When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand. Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination! Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!
